B.C. music festival exit checks lead to hundreds of tickets for impaired and reckless driving

Police issued hundreds of tickets to drivers attending the Shambhala Music Festival in British Columbia, citing widespread impaired and irresponsible driving among the estimated 50,000 attendees. The BC Highway Patrol reported 311 speeding tickets, seven excessive speeding fines, and 11 tickets for driving without insurance, alongside other violations like seatbelt and electronic device offenses. At festival exit roadblocks, police towed 57 vehicles and issued 51 drug impairment suspensions, prompting a warning that officers will return next year in greater numbers to enforce road safety.
