B.C. court orders cryptocurrency platforms to reveal account holders
A B.C. Supreme Court judge has ordered cryptocurrency platforms Binance and Coinbase to reveal the identities of account holders linked to a man who lost $26 million in bitcoin due to fraud. Lixiao Wang was defrauded by someone posing as a cryptocurrency expert in Vancouver. After transferring the funds, he became suspicious when he lost access to his account and was asked to deposit more money for a "security audit." Wang's investigation traced the bitcoin to accounts on the two platforms. The judge ruled that the companies must provide identifying information about the account holders to help identify the fraudsters.
