B.C. couple claims close family friend scammed them out of nearly $300,000

A couple in British Columbia, Judy and Bernie Lehmann, claim they were scammed out of nearly $300,000 by a close family friend, Tyler Willard. The scam began in 2019 when they were falsely warned of a criminal gang targeting them. Willard was sentenced in December to nine months of house arrest for extortion and ordered to pay $260,000 in restitution. However, the Lehmanns doubt they will recover any money, as Willard is on disability after suffering a stroke.
