Base Power raises $1 billion for home battery that backs up and feeds the grid

Base Power has raised $1 billion to scale its new Base Core home battery, which provides backup power during outages and feeds electricity back to the grid, as US home battery installations hit a record high. The battery, available in 39.2 kWh and 78.4 kWh versions, installs in under an hour and can keep a home running for 36-72 hours during outages, operating in temperatures from -30°C to 50°C. It also reduces grid reliance and electricity bills, with pricing in Texas and Illinois starting at $695 upfront plus a $19 monthly membership fee. Base Power's installed capacity has grown to over 500 MWh in the past year, and the company is now valued at $13 billion. US home battery installations reached 673 megawatts in the first quarter of 2026, with Google also investing in distributed household energy systems.
