Baltimore builds rec center honoring Elijah Cummings

Baltimore broke ground on a new recreation center named after the late Congressman Elijah Cummings, a champion for the city's youth. The center is expected to open in the fall of 2026. The $15.7 million project, located in South Baltimore, will feature multipurpose rooms, fitness centers, and a gymnasium. Funding includes $5.7 million from the American Rescue Plan and $10 million from the city's Capital Improvement Program. The groundbreaking ceremony, attended by Maryland Democrats, highlighted Cummings' legacy and impact. This is not the first project named for Cummings; Elijah's Park opened last October.
