Bali bans small plastic water bottles starting 2026

Bali will ban the sale and production of plastic bottled water under one liter starting in 2026 to combat severe plastic pollution. This aims to make the island a sustainable development model. The ban, announced in April and detailed in May, targets the significant plastic waste generated on the island, particularly by tourists. Violators face business license revocation, while compliant communities and businesses will be rewarded. Bali faces a massive waste problem, with over 300,000 tons of plastic waste annually, much of which ends up in the ocean. This initiative follows existing restrictions on plastic bags and other single-use plastics.
