Bahia recorded over 170,000 snakebite accidents between 2021 and July 2026, according to the Ministry of Health's Sinan system, with Feira de Santana leading the state ranking. In most cases, exceeding 160,000 reports, victims could not identify the snake species. Among identified cases, Bothrops snakes, including jararacas and caissacas, caused 10,838 bites, followed by rattlesnakes with 1,331. The accident volume shows no direct link to population size, as only three of Bahia's ten largest cities appear in the top ten for notifications. Coral snakes caused 305 incidents, while rare bushmaster snakes accounted for 97 cases.
