Colorado Avalanche rookie Matt Stienburg is scheduled for a player safety hearing after a major penalty for charging Erik Cernak of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The incident occurred during a game on Wednesday, which the Avalanche lost 5-2.

Stienburg received a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for the hit at 17:18 of the second period. Cernak left the game and did not return.

Stienburg, 24, has not scored in his first eight NHL games but has recorded 16 hits and 22 penalty minutes. He was drafted in 2019 and made his NHL debut on October 16.
