He was injured when a wave capsized his fishing boat, causing him to be struck by the propeller. Sharam suffered severe injuries, including a fractured skull and deep cuts. He was rescued by friends and taken to Port Moresby Hospital, where he has undergone multiple surgeries and is now out of intensive care. His family is raising funds to cover a $78,000 medical evacuation back to Australia, as he did not have travel insurance. A GoFundMe campaign has already raised over $25,500 to assist with the costs.
