Assam Congress ends alliance with Raijor Dal over ethics violations

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has formally ended its political alliance with Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal, citing repeated violations of alliance ethics and conduct. The decision is effective immediately. The termination was directed by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi and announced via a circular from general secretary Ramanna Baruah. Congress accused Raijor Dal of malicious propaganda, character assassination, and derogatory remarks against opposition alliance leaders, undermining coalition norms. The move follows public criticism of Gogoi's remarks and comes after the May 2026 Assam elections, where BJP won 82 seats, Congress secured 19, and Raijor Dal won two. Congress stated the alliance's end won't affect its commitment to public issues.
