Armenia and Azerbaijan near historic peace agreement
Armenia and Azerbaijan have made progress towards a peace agreement, resolving two key issues that had stalled negotiations for months. Armenia's Foreign Ministry announced on March 13 that the text of the Peace Agreement is now agreed upon. The sticking points involved Armenia recognizing Azerbaijani sovereignty over Nagorno Karabakh and allowing land access for Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan. Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry expressed satisfaction but stated that Armenia must amend its constitution and abolish the Minsk Group before signing. This development follows a period of strained relations and increased tensions. Armenia's concessions may be influenced by its recent defeat in the Second Karabakh War, which allowed Azerbaijan to regain control over the region.
