Experts within the Armed Forces disagree on whether raising or covering the U-864 wreck is the safest course of action, with some citing a high risk of detonation and others a low probability. The KNM "Tyr" located the U-864 wreck in 2003, and a final report from the Coastal Administration is expected in spring 2026.
