Arkansas voucher application included controversial racial mix question

A deleted version of the Arkansas school voucher application included a question asking parents if they wanted a "different racial mix" for their child. This option drew criticism on social media shortly after its release. The vouchers, part of Governor Sarah Sanders' 2023 LEARNS Act, provide nearly $7,000 per student for private school or homeschool expenses. Following backlash, the Arkansas Department of Education removed the controversial question and other options related to religion and academic performance. In the six hours the original form was available, 110 applicants indicated the racial mix option as a reason for applying. Critics argue that voucher systems often benefit wealthier families rather than those in need.
