Archaeologists uncover fourth-century Byzantine city and tombs in Egypt's Dakhla oasis and Marina el-Alamein

Two major archaeological sites, a Byzantine city and eighteen tombs, have been uncovered in Egypt. The Dakhla oasis site reveals a well-preserved fourth-century city with a planned layout, basilica church, and homes. The Marina el-Alamein site yielded tombs, some with the "golden tongue" funerary practice. These discoveries offer insights into fourth-century life and are expected to boost Egypt's tourism sector, which saw a record 19 million visitors last year.
