Archaeologists discover statue at Egyptian temple that may depict Cleopatra
Archaeologists have discovered a white marble statue of a woman with a royal crown at the Tapuziris Magna temple in Egypt. They suspect it may depict Cleopatra VII, along with other artifacts dating back to the 1st century BC. The excavation also uncovered a limestone bust of a king, 350 coins featuring Cleopatra, pottery, oil lamps, and bronze statues. However, some experts question the identification of the statue as Cleopatra, suggesting it may represent a later princess. Additionally, remains of a Greek temple from the 4th century BC and large tombs were found at the site. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities highlighted the significance of these discoveries for understanding the late Ptolemaic period.
