Apple to introduce in-house Wi-Fi 7 chip in iPhone 17 models

macrumors.com

Apple plans to include its own Wi-Fi 7 chip in at least one model of the iPhone 17, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Currently, iPhones use a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip from Broadcom. Kuo predicts that Apple will transition to its in-house Wi-Fi chips for nearly all products within three years. This change aims to lower component costs and enhance integration between hardware and software. The iPhone 16 models already support Wi-Fi 7 but with limited features. Kuo noted that the new chip will fully support the latest Wi-Fi 7 specifications and will be made using TSMC's 7nm process.
