Apple launches Thunderbolt 5 with major upgrades over Thunderbolt 4

Thunderbolt 5 has been introduced, with Apple incorporating it into some new Mac models. This upgrade offers significant improvements over Thunderbolt 4, including increased bandwidth, enhanced video capabilities, and higher power delivery. Thunderbolt 5 supports up to 80Gb/s bi-directional bandwidth and 120Gb/s asynchronously, doubling the speed of Thunderbolt 4. It can handle multiple 8K displays or three 4K displays at 144Hz, compared to Thunderbolt 4's limitations. Power delivery has also increased, with Thunderbolt 5 capable of delivering up to 240W, compared to Thunderbolt 4's 100W. Thunderbolt 5 maintains backward compatibility with Thunderbolt 4 devices and cables, although labeling issues may arise.
