Apple confirms use of Amazon AI chips for cloud services

Apple is now using Amazon Web Services' custom AI chips for various services, including search. This was announced at the AWS Reinvent conference, marking a rare instance of Apple publicly acknowledging a supplier as a customer. Apple's senior director of machine learning stated that the company has used AWS for over a decade, benefiting from a 40% efficiency gain with Amazon's chips. Apple is also evaluating Amazon's new Trainium2 chip for pretraining its AI models. Previously, Apple relied on Google Cloud's TPU chips for training its AI services. Unlike many competitors, Apple processes AI tasks using its own devices, minimizing reliance on external servers.
