Anthropic launches Claude 3.5 Haiku AI model at four times the cost of predecessor

Anthropic has launched its new AI model, Claude 3.5 Haiku, which is four times more expensive than the previous version. The new model costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens, compared to 25 cents and $1.25 for the older model. Despite the higher cost, Claude 3.5 Haiku is reported to outperform the previous flagship model, Claude 3 Opus, on many benchmarks. Anthropic initially planned to keep prices the same but adjusted them due to the model's improved performance. The new model offers enhanced capabilities, including a more updated knowledge base and longer text responses. However, it lacks some features, such as image analysis, which will be added later. The older model will remain available for users needing those features.
