Andhra Pradesh government starts land acquisition for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects
The Andhra Pradesh Government has begun the process of acquiring land for metro rail projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. This follows the approval of Phase-I for both projects in December 2024, with costs of ₹11,498 crore and ₹11,009 crore, respectively. Visakhapatnam's metro will require 99.75 acres of land, costing ₹882 crore, and will span 46.23 km across three corridors. The Vijayawada project will need 91 acres, costing ₹1,152 crore, and will cover 38.40 km with two corridors. Orders have been issued to local officials to prepare for the necessary notifications for land acquisition. The government is also seeking full funding from the central government for these projects.
