An Post announces stamp price increase to €1.65 as mail usage declines
An Post will increase the price of a standard stamp from €1.40 to €1.65 on March 1st. This marks a 40% rise in delivery costs since 2020, driven by fixed operational expenses and declining mail usage. The cost of sending letters abroad will also rise by 20 cents to €2.20. An Post's CEO, Garret Bridgeman, noted that despite the price hike, electronic communication continues to reduce traditional mail volume. Bridgeman emphasized that An Post operates on a low profit margin, investing revenue into infrastructure and technology. He highlighted the importance of the postal service in communities, especially for vulnerable individuals.
