Amazon MGM takes creative control of James Bond franchise as producers step back

Amazon MGM Studios has taken creative control of the James Bond franchise, marking a significant change in leadership. Long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will step back from their roles, allowing Amazon to oversee future projects. This shift follows Amazon's acquisition of MGM Studios in 2022 for $6.5 billion, which included a vast film and TV catalog. Reports indicate that Broccoli and Wilson had disagreements with Amazon over the direction of the Bond series since Daniel Craig's last film in 2021. For the first time in over 50 years, a Broccoli will not be involved in greenlighting a new Bond film. Amazon MGM and the producers have formed a joint venture to co-own the Bond intellectual property rights, with the deal expected to close in 2025.
