Amazon MGM Studios is developing a film adaptation of K.L. Walther's novel "The Summer of Broken Rules," produced by Sophia Stallone's Common Era Projects and Sylvester Stallone's Balboa Productions. The screenwriting team of Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin, known for Disney's "Mulan" and Netflix's "Spellbound," will adapt the script. Sophia Stallone produces alongside Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller. The 2021 novel, a #1 New York Times bestseller, follows Meredith Fox, who attends a family wedding on Martha's Vineyard and plays the traditional assassin game while grieving her sister. The book has sold into 19 territories and was published by Sourcebooks Fire. Sophia Stallone recently announced development on the MGM Television series "Bourbon & Lies," and Balboa Productions re-upped its first-look deal with Amazon MGM earlier this year.
