Aliyev: Kyiv Dynamo's Ponomarenko has yet to prove himself

sport.nv.ua (Ukrainian)

Former Dynamo Kyiv player Oleksandr Aliyev told journalists not to treat 20-year-old forward Matviy Ponomarenko as a star, saying he has yet to prove himself. Aliyev noted Ponomarenko has played only half a senior season and scored no goals in four Europa League qualifiers this season. He advised the forward to keep scoring, including in European competition. Last season, Ponomarenko scored 13 goals in 15 league matches. Ponomarenko was last season's Ukrainian Premier League top scorer and best young player, and scored on his national debut in a March World Cup playoff against Sweden. He recently signed a five-year deal with Dynamo.
