Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has been nominated for a new term as president of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). Most of the organization's members supported his nomination ahead of the FIE congress on November 30 in Uzbekistan. Usmanov previously served as president until March 2022, when he stepped down due to European Union sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Emmanuel Katsiadakis has been acting as interim president since then. In a statement, Usmanov expressed gratitude for the support from 103 of the FIE's 156 national federations. He did not clarify if he plans to resume his previous duties if re-elected.
