The Aligarh Sugar Association will sell sugar at a subsidized rate of 60 rupees per kilogram to the public starting today, ahead of Raksha Bandhan and other festivals, to provide relief from inflation. Two special counters have been set up in the city at Mahavirganj and Kanwariganj, operating daily from 12 PM to 4 PM. Each person can buy up to 2 kilograms of sugar using a card or ID, according to association member Dhruvesh Chandra Varshney. The association has assured that sugar prices will not increase during the festival season, and it will absorb any additional costs if market rates rise. The current wholesale market price is 60 rupees per kilogram.
