Alibaba's AI detects stomach cancer early in China

Alibaba has launched an AI model, ‘Grape,’ that can detect stomach cancer in its early stages using CT scans, potentially improving early detection rates. The AI, developed by Alibaba’s Damo Academy, analyzes 3D CT scans, outperforming human radiologists in clinical trials with 85.1% sensitivity and 96.8% specificity, and aims to overcome the limitations of invasive endoscopy. This non-invasive approach addresses a major gap in cancer screening, particularly in China, and builds on Alibaba's previous AI success in pancreatic cancer detection, with plans for large-scale deployment.
