Brazilian TV presenter Alex Escobar, 55, shared a heartfelt update on social media Wednesday following surgery and a myasthenia gravis diagnosis, stating he still has a long recovery road ahead before returning to normal life. Escobar was diagnosed with the autoimmune neuromuscular disease during World Cup coverage and underwent surgery on August 6 to remove a benign-appearing thymus tumor. He said he needs time to recover and has not set a return date to television. The diagnosis followed a June 22 on-air health scare during "Encontro com Patrícia Poeta," when he suffered a blood pressure spike and was hospitalized in New Jersey. Myasthenia gravis causes muscle weakness and fatigue.
