Aldi UK tracks milk bottle recycling with invisible tags

express.co.uk

Aldi is adding invisible fluorescent tags to milk bottles in an eight-week pilot to track how many empties reach recycling centres. The scheme, run with dairy cooperative Arla and tech firm Polytag, scans returned bottles at recyclers to gather data on bottle journeys and improve recycling-rate accuracy. Customers need to do nothing differently. It follows an earlier pressure-sensitive labelling trial. Polytag says UV tagging works at scale, offering cost-effective recycling insights. Sun Chemical supplied the fluorescent ink.
