Alberta construction company sues for $440K over unpaid work on Winnipeg's Leaf project
An Alberta construction company, Ferguson Corporation, has filed a lawsuit seeking $441,918 for unpaid invoices related to its work on the Leaf at Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg. The company claims it was not fully paid for supplying and installing the building's curtain wall systems. Ferguson is suing Bird Construction Group, the main contractor, and the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, alleging they have retained the benefits of its services without payment. This lawsuit adds to several others connected to the Leaf project, which has faced ongoing legal disputes since 2021. The Leaf, an indoor horticultural attraction, opened in late 2022 after delays and cost overruns. Originally budgeted at $75 million, the final cost reached $130 million, funded by private donations and government contributions.
