Alas Pilipinas women's pair stays unbeaten at AVC Asian Beach Volleyball Championships
The Philippine women's beach volleyball pair of Khylem Progella and Sofiah Pagara secured their second consecutive win in Pool C at the AVC Asian Beach Volleyball Championships 2026, an Olympic qualifier for Los Angeles 2028, defeating Uzbekistan's Zamira Shagraeva and Odina Uralova 21-5, 21-7 on Thursday in Shangluo, China. The pair, who are Busan Futures champions, opened their campaign with a 21-13, 21-14 victory over Kazakhstan's Kristina Karimova and Yekaterina Ryukhova on Wednesday. Fellow Filipinas Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons improved to 1-1 in Pool E after beating Uzbekistan's Guzaloy Mamatsodikova and Malikakhon Tursunpulatova 21-8, 21-8, following an opening-day loss to Thailand. The top two teams from each pool advance to the round of 16, with the tournament champion earning a spot at the LA Olympics 2028. Meanwhile, the Alas men's pair of James Buytrago and Ronniel Rosales fell to a 0-2 record after losses to Japan and Australia.
