AI predicts cancer survival using facial analysis
Scientists have developed an AI algorithm, FaceAge, that analyzes facial features to predict cancer patients' survival outcomes, sometimes surpassing clinicians' accuracy. The FaceAge algorithm, trained on thousands of photos, assesses biological age and found cancer patients appeared older than their chronological age. The algorithm's predictions proved more accurate than clinicians' in forecasting survival rates for patients undergoing palliative radiotherapy. This research, published in Lancet Digital Health, highlights the potential of AI in healthcare, with further studies planned to explore FaceAge's ability to predict other diseases and health metrics.
