AI models from Google, OpenAI won math competition gold

Google and OpenAI's AI models have each won gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad, marking a significant advancement in AI's mathematical abilities. This achievement signals a major step forward in the development of AI systems capable of complex reasoning. The AI models solved five out of six problems using general-purpose reasoning models that processed mathematical concepts through natural language. This marks the first time AI systems have surpassed the gold-medal threshold in the competition, surpassing previous AI approaches.
