AI camera prevents train collision with elephant herd in Odisha

A herd of 28 elephants was saved from a potential train collision in Rourkela, Odisha, thanks to an AI-based thermal camera. The camera detected the elephants on the railway track and alerted the control room of the forest department and railways. Upon receiving the alert, the railways delayed a goods train by 30 minutes, allowing the elephants to cross safely. This incident highlights the effectiveness of technology in preventing wildlife accidents on railway tracks. Previously, 36 elephants had died in train collisions over the past decade. The installation of high-resolution AI cameras aims to reduce such incidents in the future.
