Ahkello Witherspoon retires four months after joining Commanders

Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon retired from the NFL on Tuesday, just four months after signing with the Washington Commanders in March. Witherspoon, a nine-year veteran, previously played for the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Steelers, and Los Angeles Rams. He was limited to six games last season due to a broken clavicle and a re-broken scapula suffered during the playoffs. Injuries throughout his career may have influenced his decision to retire. The Commanders signed him in March 2026, but he chose to step away as training camps began.
