AgriConnect is enhancing Filipino farmers' crop monitoring

inquirer.net

AgriConnect, an AI program developed by Soj Gamayon, aims to assist Filipino farmers in monitoring their crops. The tool uses multi-spectral IoT sensors to collect data on soil and pests, which is then simplified into a mobile app with color-coded risk categories. Preliminary interviews with 80 farmers and agribusinesses revealed that 78 are interested in using AgriConnect. The program seeks to address challenges posed by natural disasters, which frequently disrupt farming in the Philippines. With support from Microsoft, AgriConnect aims to enhance crop resilience and profitability, contributing to the agricultural sector, which accounted for about 8.9% of the Philippines' GDP in 2024.
