AfD leads in eastern Germany, poll shows

According to the RTL/ntv "Trendbarometer," the AfD leads in eastern Germany with 43 percent support, followed by the Left Party at 16 percent. The survey was published Tuesday by the Forsa Institute. The CDU trails at 13 percent in the east, while Greens and SPD each hold nine percent. The FDP remains below the five-percent threshold. Nationwide, the AfD also leads with 28 percent, ahead of CDU/CSU at 21 percent. Fifty-six percent of respondents trust no party to best solve Germany's problems. The AfD garners the most confidence at 13 percent, followed by the Union at 11 percent and Greens at eight percent.
