8th Pay Commission: Level 8 staff may gain Rs 28.89 lakh extra with 7% increment

The 8th Pay Commission could provide a Level 8 central government employee with up to Rs 28.89 lakh in additional salary over 10 years if the annual increment rate is raised from 3% to 7%, according to estimates. Employee bodies, including the NC-JCM and AIDEF, have proposed raising the annual increment to 6%, while AINPSEF has demanded 7% and IRTSA has suggested 5%, arguing the current 3% rate is insufficient against rising expenses. The commission will hold consultations in Chennai on September 7 and 8. The estimates assume a 2.15 fitment factor, revising a Level 8 employee's basic pay from Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,02,340. Over 10 years, a 5% increment would yield Rs 13.68 lakh extra, while a 7% increment would total Rs 1.69 crore compared to Rs 1.40 crore at 3%.
