70-Ton Bridge Segment Crashes onto A9 Motorway at Hermsdorfer Kreuz
A 70-ton bridge segment fell from a heavy transport vehicle onto the A9 motorway at the Hermsdorfer Kreuz on Wednesday evening, blocking traffic and forcing major diversions. Recovery operations are underway, with disruptions expected until Thursday afternoon. The fallen part is blocking the parallel lane towards Berlin, preventing drivers from switching between the A4 from Frankfurt and the A9 to Berlin, and vice versa. Police suspect a technical defect caused the trailer's wheels to lock, releasing the load. A passing car was damaged, but no one was injured. Two 100-ton cranes are being used for the recovery, and a replacement transporter has been organized. The bridge part, built in Zwickau, was destined for a federal road in Celle. Two additional heavy transports are also stuck behind the accident vehicle.
