70-ton bridge part falls from truck at Hermsdorf junction, A4/A9 reopens after 18 hours
A 70-ton bridge part fell from a heavy transport vehicle at the Hermsdorfer Autobahn junction, closing the A4/A9 overpass for over 18 hours. The recovery work is now complete, and traffic has resumed. The accident occurred Wednesday evening when wheels on the trailer's rear unit blocked, causing the load to fall. Two 100-ton cranes and a replacement transporter were used for recovery, which lasted until Thursday afternoon. No injuries were reported, though initial damage estimates are around 100,000 euros. Police are investigating the cause, suspected to be a technical defect. A parallel car sustained front-end damage. The bridge part, built in Zwickau, was destined for a federal road in Celle, Lower Saxony.
