50cc scooters face production end due to emissions regulations, with new standards on the horizon

50cc scooters are effectively discontinued, with production ending in November 2025 due to emissions regulations. A new "new standard moped" category will replace them. This new category allows for 125cc or less mopeds with a limited output, maintaining similar regulations to current 50cc models, including speed limits and no two-person riding. However, no models have been officially released yet. Dealerships report rapidly dwindling stock of existing 50cc models, with many already reserved or sold out. Suzuki has already ceased new 50cc sales, leaving only used options available.
