A new AI algorithm discovered over 27,000 asteroids in our solar system, aiding in tracking potentially hazardous ones. The algorithm, THOR, analyzed 400,000 images from NOIRLab. It can analyze 1.7 billion light dots in a single image and connect specks to identify moving asteroids. The Vera C. Rubin Observatory, set to start operations next year, aims to find 2.4 million asteroids in its first six months using AI-based software.
