146 countries recognize Palestine as a sovereign state in 2024
As of 2024, 146 countries recognize the State of Palestine, which is 75 percent of UN member states. This year, nine countries, including Ireland, Norway, and Spain, formally recognized Palestine, increasing international support amid ongoing conflict in Gaza. On May 22, 2024, Norway, Ireland, and Spain announced their recognition of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
