Zenith Bank data breach exposes customer information in Nigeria

Hackers breached the database of Zenith Bank, one of Nigeria's largest financial institutions, stealing customer information. The bank confirmed the attack in an email to customers on Tuesday. Zenith Bank stated the attackers accessed limited customer data, including email addresses and phone numbers, as part of a broader global cyberattack on multiple sectors. The lender emphasized that banking services and digital channels remain secure and fully operational, with investigations ongoing and incident response protocols activated. The bank urged customers to stay vigilant against phishing attempts and never disclose passwords or OTPs. This follows a similar incident at Guaranty Trust Bank in August 2024 and recent Central Bank of Nigeria warnings about fraudulent messages targeting personal accounts.
