Young Australians doubt home ownership as housing crisis deepens
Young Australians are increasingly frustrated with the housing market, feeling it is unfair that politicians with investment properties make decisions affecting their ability to buy homes. Many young people express doubts about ever owning property, citing rising prices and stagnant wages. Home ownership rates have dropped from 71.4% to 66.2% over 25 years. Young renters report that high costs make saving for a deposit nearly impossible, with median property values now about eight times the average household income. The housing crisis is a major issue for upcoming elections, but proposed reforms face challenges. Politicians, many of whom own multiple properties, are criticized for being out of touch with the struggles of younger generations trying to enter the property market.
