Wisconsin candidate Francesca Hong defends past Thanksgiving criticism

Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner Francesca Hong declined to retract her 2020 social media post calling for the cancellation of Thanksgiving, instead giving a rambling response when asked about it on CNN Monday. Hong, a democratic socialist and restaurant owner, said Thanksgiving is "incredibly painful for many people" but emphasized her chef background helps her "bring more people to the table." She did not directly address her past statement that the holiday celebrates "colonialism" and the "original superspreader event." Hong has posted critical comments about at least seven American holidays, including Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, July 4th, Halloween, and Christmas. Her campaign did not respond to requests for comment on her views regarding other holidays.
