Windows 11 26H2 Update Adds Movable Taskbar and Bing-Free Search
Microsoft's Windows 11 26H2 update is now rolling out, enabling previously delayed features like a movable taskbar and Bing-free search, and is mandatory for security updates after October 2027. The update resets the support clock for eligible devices running versions 25H2 and 24H2. The update, available via Settings > Windows Update, can be forced by enabling "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available." It adds long-requested features including taskbar repositioning, disabling Bing in Start menu search, compact taskbar options, quieter widgets, fewer Copilot buttons, remappable Copilot keys, point-in-time system restores, and performance improvements for 8GB RAM PCs. Devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 processors running 26H1 cannot upgrade due to a different Windows core. Microsoft has removed the WMIC utility in this update due to security vulnerabilities, but no other features are being dropped. The company plans a future 27H2 version that will accommodate both 26H1 and 26H2 devices.
