Wigan boy, 13, still needs hospital care after sepsis coma ordeal

A mother has described how her family's life changed overnight when her five-year-old son developed life-threatening sepsis in 2018, leaving him in a coma for five days. Archie, from Wigan, was diagnosed with meningitis B that developed into sepsis. Archie spent two weeks at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, receiving specialist care and rehabilitation in the paediatric intensive care unit. His mother Kate said seeing him fighting for his life was the most frightening time the family has ever experienced. Now aged 13, Archie continues to receive hospital care, including check-ups, operations, and therapy. His family has raised over £14,000 for the hospital over eight years through events like a sponsored head shave and a Lake District climb, expressing gratitude for the staff's support.
