WhatsApp launches bill payments in India for FASTag, utilities, and more

WhatsApp has launched a bill payment feature in India, allowing users to pay utility and household bills directly within the app. The service provides access to 22,722 billers across 30 categories, including electricity, gas, water, FASTag, insurance, and loan repayments. The feature is powered by the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network and is being rolled out gradually to all Android and iOS users over the coming weeks. Users can access it by tapping the "₹" icon on the home screen, where they can view past payments, manage multiple accounts under a single biller, and pay using UPI, debit, or credit cards. Meta India's Managing Director Arun Srinivas said the feature aims to reduce the need for users to switch between apps or track multiple payment services. WhatsApp will also pre-fetch bills from previously used billers for quicker access on the Payments Home page.
