Vorokhta Revives Legendary Ski Jumping Tradition with Height Cup 2026
The international ski jumping competition "Height Cup 2026" took place in late September in Vorokhta, Ivano-Frankivsk region, featuring 34 athletes from Ukraine, Poland, and Slovenia competing on the K-75 and K-90 hills. The event marks the second season of revived competitions at the historic complex, supported by the ULIS recreation network and IT company Boosta. Local sports school director Igor Hladysh noted the facility allows year-round training, with recent repairs to the run-up and landing hills. Vorokhta's ski jumping tradition dates to 1922, when the first hill was built and Elżbieta Michalewska-Zentkiewicz became one of the world's first female jumpers. The hills, called "skocznie" locally, have been reconstructed three times and remain vital for Ukrainian athletes.
